The department of foreign languages was founded in 1966 on the basis of the subdivision of teachers of foreign languages. In different time it was headed by Associate Professors V. Vitte, L. Voloshyna, M. Myroshnichenko, Professors V. Matviishin, Y. Baran.

Due to opening of the specialty “English language” in 1973 separate Department of English language was created as well as department of German language 1976. In 2005 and in 2010 Department of Foreign Languages and Language country studying and the Department of Foreign Languages and Translation. Some of the teachers were transferred to the newly created departments.

Candidate of Philology (PhD), Associate Professor V.V. Tkachivsky has been the head of the department since September 2001.

During the period from 2001 till 2014 at the Department there were successfully defended dissertations for the Candidate’s Degree by L.Pryymak, L.Petrenko, U.Ketsyk, T.Pomirkovana, O.Hurhula, A.Kuchera, M.Sakhniy, H.Masliy, T.Monolatiy, M. Vasylyk, B.Greshchuk, O.Tytun.

The staff of the department conducts classes on such theoretical courses as Foreign Language, Business Foreign Language, Practice of Technical Translation, Foreign Language Scientific Communication at the University Institutes and Faculties, the Educational Consulting Centers of Rakhiv, Kalush, Chortkiv.

At present, the department staff includes 19 teaching assistants and associate professors: 14 of them are Candidates of Philological, Pedagogical and Psychological Sciences, associate professors; 1 – Candidate of Philological Sciences, assistant professor; 3 – senior lecturers; 1 –  assistant professor. Teachers of the department participate in the work of all-Ukrainian and international conferences, received training at universities in Austria, Germany, the USA, Great Britain, Poland.
