The department of foreign languages was established in 1966 on the basis of the section of foreign languages teachers. At different times, it was headed by associate professors V.E. Witte, S.P. Bukavyn, L.B. Voloshyna, M.I. Myroshnychenko, professors V.H. Matviyishyn, Ya.A. Baran. Since September 2001, the department has been headed by candidate of philological sciences, associate professor V.V. Tkachivskyi.

In 1973 on the basis of the Department of Foreign Languages the Department of English Philology and in 1976 the Department of German Language were established, in 2005 and 2010 – the Departments of Foreign Languages and Country Studies and the Department of Foreign Languages and Translation. Some of the teachers changed their place of work into the newly created departments.
During the period from 2001 to 2018, dissertations were defended by L. Pryimak, L. Petrenko, U. Ketsyk, T. Pomirkovana, O. Hurhula, A. Kuchera, M. Sakhnii, G. Sivkovych, T. Monolatii, M. Vasylyk, B. Hreshchuk, O. Tytun, H. Karpenko, O. Nych, O. Khomyshyn, N. Volkovetska, V. Sergiyenko, O. Turchanska, N. Kuravska, O. Turchyn, A. Boichuk and others.
Teachers of the department teach courses “Foreign language”, “Professional foreign language”, “Practice of technical translation”, “Scientific communication in a foreign language”, “Writing scientific texts in a foreign language”, “Business foreign language” in university institutes and faculties.
Today, 19 full-time teachers work at the department. 14 of them are candidates of philological, pedagogical and psychological sciences, associate professors; 1 – candidate of philological sciences, assistant; 3 – senior teachers; 1 – assistant. The teachers of the department participate in the work of all-Ukrainian and international conferences, in seminars organized by the Goethe Institute and the British Council, and have completed internships at universities in Austria, Germany, the USA, Great Britain, and Poland.
