On April 23, the Department of Foreign Languages held themed English language classes to celebrate International English Language Day. This observance, initiated by UNESCO, is celebrated annually in honor of the birth of William Shakespeare, the renowned English playwright and poet. It aims to recognize the role of English as one of the official languages of international communication and global culture.

The classes were filled with inspiration, creativity, and a strong sense of linguistic unity. Students recited poems in English — from Shakespearean classics to modern poetry and original works. Talented students also performed popular English songs, adding emotional depth and warmth to the celebration.

One of the highlights of the event was a lively discussion on the topic: “English in the World: A Language of Global Understanding.” Students explored the crucial role English plays today in science, diplomacy, business, culture, and education. These discussions encouraged critical thinking, improved speaking skills, and broadened students’ perspectives.

Each teacher took a creative approach to their lesson, incorporating interactive presentations, video materials, game-based activities, intercultural quizzes, mini-performances, as well as poster and slogan creation in English. This dynamic format not only enhanced language skills but also fostered a sense of belonging to the global community.

The event clearly demonstrated that learning English is not just about grammar and vocabulary — it’s about inspiration, intercultural dialogue, discovering the world, and self-expression.
